In the age of millennials, information is on the go. This generation is the most tech-savvy group of people that we have seen on the planet. According to Nielsen Surveys, millennials are cited that technology was their most defining characteristic. It beat factors such as pop culture and even music. This group cannot go without a day with checking in with social media or documenting live events anywhere and everywhere. How connected are they to their tech...? According to one study, 83% of the demographic admits to sleeping with their devices near or even next to them. I will admit I am definitely one of the 83% that could not stay away from a device nor would I want too. Another tidbit is that this generation hit their phones more than 100 times a day. Kinda serious, kinda crazy, but it is their world and we live in it.
Seeing how smartphones are here today, this group is amazingly one of the most out going generation we have seen in a very long time. Many of them value real-world experiences and broadcast their lives via social media and actively search new situations even if it's just around the corner. Due to the duality of outgoing and tech-savvy personalities, apps and services by the dozens have come out to service this obsessed group of consumers.
In an article by TechCrunch, EventBrite, an event web/app company, raked in 2 billion dollars in gross ticket sales as of March 2013. I don't even want to know what kind of numbers they are pulling in now, but what we do know is that events and technology is a thing. That thing is something that people in the event industries should cue in on. That thing...Technology and Events are definitely suited for each other.
People who are reading this might think this is a pitch for our app, which it kinda is, but more importantly, its that technology should work with the tech that is already in place. Making our lives easier and not doing another step in a process. Already, there are many people working towards that goal in so many different industries, but regrettably, the event industry is still lacking. Meeting rooms, Live events, Award Ceremonies, etc, have so much to gain with all the social media that is out there. I think its about time that we make nice with the millennials and embrace the future.
