Usually I am usually amazed at some of the events and the tech that goes into them that is presented by BizBash. I am aware the constant need for content from an entity such as them, but I would have to say that some of the trends covered in the post today was a little lackluster.
Don't get me wrong, some of them are spot on. Live Streaming Weddings, video wedding invitations, chatbots (yeah...this is a thing!) and drones are cool and warranted, but near field communication devices seem a little overkill and snapchat features kinda go without saying anything nowadays. I personally wouldn't go as far as saying that these are some of the the coolest tech tools for a wedding.
It's easy to see a shameless plug in this post, but... after attending different discussions and panels on event tech, some of it just goes with out saying. They always bring up the social media factor. Perhaps there are some ingenious ways of using it, but its one of those items that people already are factoring in.
It's kind of a no brainer.
New devices such as drone technology can be used all sorts of ways, especially for pictures and some amazing shots. I'm sure any photographer you hire either has a drone or has really given some serious thought in purchasing a drone. Again, a low hanging fruit. The issue in all these cases are how weddings and events can use those technologies. The fact is, only less than half on the list are dedicated to the event itself. Technology that is created for the sole purpose for the event has not been developed (yet). I personally feel that event tech is not at a point where it needs to be. Most of the tech developed never had the event industry in mind. Somehow, the creative people in this industry utilize what is currently available and find clever ways of achieving their goals even though the tech was not intended specifically for that use.
Sooo...Back to my shameless plug and commentary on technology in the event space today... Wedding planners are still using clunky programs and rudimentary illustrations for us to visualize our events. Definitely not taking anything away from event planners, cause some of them do throw some amazing events! That's why we hire them! They have vision. Its that for people like me, I can't visualize the outcome of the final product. I need training wheels. I see my nephew playing video games and can't help but think all the graphic capabilities created to for this audience. It's why we came out with PreParti, its about time that their should be tech that is solely made for this. To make our lives easier and not more responsibilities that make our lives crazier. This is just my thoughts and take on the industry and hopefully we can make a difference and make getting together with friends and family a little less stressful.
PS. BizBash, you guys are awesome! We read you religiously!
