Gamification and the world of events. I felt I had to pull from the past to bring this topic up. Since being in the event industry ( officially for one year now!) , I've heard this word being thrown out at every conference. According to the almighty GOOGLE;
" Gamification : the application of typical elements of game playing (e.g., point scoring, competition with others, rules of play) to other areas of activity, typically as an online marketing technique to encourage engagement with a product or service."
This is where I became lost with definition of this term being thrown out at every convention I go to. From a marketing stand point, I suppose that makes sense, for me it doesn't strike me the same way. I grew up with the likes of an Atari, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, PlayStation, and Xbox, so my views on games are somewhat different.
Games to me were an indicator of technology. A new medium where I could actually visit. In my lifetime alone, one sprite has become worlds that I can visit. So when I hear the words, gamification, I expect to see how all this new found technology will apply itself to the world that I live in. That line is getting blurrier by the day, but as of right now, we still live in a very physical world.
I got into the event tech business by accident and going to IMEX, it really opened my eyes to a digital divide that I was not aware of. Being a graduate of GNOMON, a very well known CG, computer graphics, school, and a product of Super Mario, I felt I truly was back in the 90's. The tech there was built off of existing technologies and just pushed around by some software engineers to accomodate the craziness that is involved with the event space. The EVENT industry is Crazy!!! That is how i summed it up as.
What made it even crazier, was the fact that this industry is still using CAD! CAD was created for mechanical engineers. Not to say there are no mechanical engineers in the event sector, I just haven't met one yet. Looking at the all the tech that is out there, how is it our children's apps look better than the grown up apps. This is the world that we live in. Seeing all the different worlds I got to explore playing games made me fan.
Since making preParti, I've learned a lot and I have a lot to learn from this industry. Hopefully, we will be able to put a new spin on a very antiquated system. It hasn't been super perfect, but our crew has been working to develop new ways to make our product better with each passing build. So now in the month of October we have BIZBASH NYC.
Like any good video game, we are making visual improvements and plan on creating more builds to provide the event industry the flexibility and the tool so that you can enjoy the same tech the nearest kid is playing on his/her mobile phone.

Fall Wedding Season! Tips and Tricks!
Ahh, the crisp air and changing leaf colors! It's time for hoodies, big sweaters and pumpkin flavored everything! And for some of you, it's Wedding time!
Fall weddings come with their own sets of challenges, but with a little creativity, those challenges can solve themselves in interesting ways!
One common obstacle for fall weddings is flowers. Some seasonal flowers are a no-go for this time of year, but that doesn't mean your centerpieces and bouquets have to be bare! Use seasonal elements, like wheat or ornamental vegetables to add an unexpected flare to your big day. Make it memorable with your own spin!
Worried your guests might be chilly at your reception? Set up fire pits or warm heat lamp areas with cozy throws and pillowy chairs. Don't lose that outdoor space to the weather! Play up the cold with some cute deserts too, like s'mores, hot chocolate, or hot apple cider stations.
Expect the chill in your photo sessions too. Plan ahead and bring jackets for your squad! This might even be a chance for a cute photo shoot with some decal jackets with you and your bridesmaids. Get some zip up hoodies and surprise them with their own "TEAM BRIDE" jackets and rock your fall photo sesh! Then you can all warm up with a box of coffee from Dunkin Donuts too (I appreciated this when I was a bridesmaid in a fall wedding. The bride's mom was on top of that!)
Planning your wedding should be exciting, fun and creative! Don't forget to use the preParti app to help jumpstart all your ideas for your wedding by exploring different venues.
Parti on with PreParti!!!
